Night Into Day

When night time comes
and day time leaves color
fades from faces of  earth's
most natural beings-

They will say it all
along, when the moon
                               copyright d.a.white
is rising in the sky, day
is gone and night is nigh.

But  those  that  walk
through lonely hours of
the night, long until the
foggy day, will say night
never sleeps and day never
dies, when night turns into day.

Aftermath (Haiku)

Sun looked at my eye,                                         copyright d.a.white
Tried to stare down, with icy cold;
Blizzards end, at night.

Fifty-eight Degrees (Haiku)

Icy fingers rip
my fabric layered body,
winter in my home.

Winters' icy stare

Separation

Ancestors corral
from the left,
up  the middle, and
from the right;
stairways separate
and took out
their light.

Who gave whom the
judgement on
those seeking freedom,
taking the children
binding them,
bleeding.

History lessons, left
middle, right
left stairways or anger
separates and takes
away freedom; judgement
was from on
high.

Cries out in the night, "No!"
then turns out the lights.

Political Flow

Two phone calls in as many days.
And no hat on!  Would you
vote for, and would you vote for,
and would you vote for;
not too creative.  But today's, came
right in the middle of my
proofing my galley proof for my book,
Why did I answer the call?,
Do you know who and would you vote
for, and do you know who, and
how do you know who, and would you
vote for, and would you vote for,
and would you vote for, and if he made
the following statements would you
be more likely to vote for him?  No, no , no!
And are you a Democrat, a DFL, a
Republican, an Independent or do you prefer
not to affilate?  What is the difference
between a Democrat and a DFL?  And HOW
OLD ARE YOU?   The next thing I
thought they would ask was DO YOU HAVE
A HAT ON?   Wonder if I'll get a call
tomorrow, and should I put a hat on?  Maybe a
grey one so I can be impartial, huh.

Twelve Years

Heedlessly the seed
was placed; pain reached
and played the blues.

Could I count the bars, a monarchs' reign

The wound was timeless
the calloused heart, even as
the gale in the
tree blew and memory dimmed.

One more beat, one more
embrace would have not played
the melody.

For twelve long years, the change to my mother was slow, but Alzheimer's disease finally took her.  At the end, no matter how many red hats or long hugs there were, nothing could stop it.  Sometimes a Bad Hat Daze can be a blessing.

Message to
past lovers
estranged brothers,
sisters, parent, and
lost friends

Don't ask,
Don't tell,

Don't wear THAT hat
today.-daw

I wrote this with my Black cap on, for it was truely a Black Hat Daze, not only for gay people but all the children and adults who are overlooked and bullied due to such anti-normal, unacceptable actions as being overweight, wearing glasses instead of contacts, being in math club instead of sports, being gay instead of 'straight', accepting people of any color other than white, accepting anyone with an accent, oh and did I say lesbian, transgender, transexual, bisexual, and gay, or even for being a Religious conservative (no wait, they get a White cap, sorry).  Anyway here's to all the Black Hat Daze; and no I'll never be done until black caps and white caps truely can understand one another and not just "One of my best friends is gay; My brother/sister is gay" as if that makes you okay.  How about I give you a black hat, too.

The Jot

Past

Lamp lit
Almost sitting in the dark
Seeing with the ink,
words, written
in a long past.

Capitulating the sentence with a sound.

Room explodes with
onslaught of light,
assault my paper,
words disappear.

Present

Jots of words,
Jots of words,
Jots of words.

Lamp lit,
almost sitting in the dark,
seeing with the ink,
words written,
sentences appear,
day begins.-daw

These words were started without a hat by the light of a lamp and finished in the day with a blue hat having had a blue hat daze.

Unconnected

listen
messengers on high
racing
in a fact-filled mind.
skipping
end-to-end,
hemisphere to hemisphere-

listen
messengers on low
exhausted
in a cave-emptied mind.
beginning in the
valley.-daw

This is when you might need a good hat daze.  So put on your favorite hat and connect those thoughts, be productive and write.

They Tried

Optimistically entering the salon
Forcefully, heated, aqua attacking the strands
Then
I
sit.

Like a sheep I wait.

My clipper has a sound,
yes
like a wall of mosquitos.
Then nothing.

I wait for the bite but feel nothing.

The shearer uses the shears and gets paid.

Alice looks in the looking glass.

I cry HELP.-daw

HAVE  you ever had a bad hat daze caused by someone else?  You just had to correct it?  Well, put on a hat.  Emergency kit:  #1  neutral colored hat  # 2 blue hat (who does't wear blue jeans?)

The Wall

See the blueprint wall
When hair
demonstratively grabs control.
Take back the day
When mind
maniacally links up its neurons.
Hat Daze the
hair.
Hat Daze the
mind.
Blueprinted wall has a
hole.
-daw

If you ever have a bad hat hair day you know it can make you do all sorts of nutty things.  Every wire in your mind seems to pop when you look in the mirror and when the product the salon sold you for a million dollars doesn't work, well, you get the picture.  So build a wall of hats.  Then grab one, take it off, make a hole and cover the it back up.  Ease the mind.  Take back control.  Laugh in that folics face.  Have a good Hat Daze.
